Clemens’ DNA tied to syringes
Tests have linked Roger Clemens DNA to blood in syringes that his former trainer, Brian McNamee, says he used to inject the pitcher with performance-enhancing drugs, according to a report. The Washington Post said Clemens gave a DNA sample to the federal authorities and it remains to be determined wether the syringes ever contained steroids or HGH. The test results could prove imortant to the investigation into wether Clemens lied under oath to Congress last year when he denied using steroids r HGH.
MORE BASEBALL: The Mets and financially troubled Citigroup said their 20-year, $400 million naming rights deal for the team’s new stadium, Citi Field, is still on despite a report that Citi may be looking to backout….Rockies 3B Garrett Atkins agreed to a one-year, $7.05 million deal….Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks agreed to a $2.45 million, one-year deal….Oliver Perez and the Mets finalized a $36 million, three-year deal….Tigers RHP Justin Verlander agreed to a one-year deal worth $3,675,000….Ex-agent Jeff Moorad’s group has reached a deal to buy the Padres from John Moores….Bob Costas has left HBO and joined the new MLB Network. He will be with NBC….The Dodgers are still trying to bring back Manny Ramirez, even though he rejected their latest offer (one year, $25 million).

Tampa Bay promoted ex-NFL QB Doug Williams to coordinator of por scouting. It also announced the hring of assistant coaches Joe Baker (DBs), Robert Nunn (DLs) and Chris Keenana (assistant strength and conditioning).
MORE FOOTBALL: The Raiders are retaining Coach Tom Cable, who went 4-8 after stepping in as interim coach during the season….Upon further review, this year’s Super Bowl was the most-watched in history. Nielsen said 98.7 people, on average, were watching the game, beating the previous records of 97.5 million who watched last year….Thousands lined downtown Pittsurgh streets at a parade celebrating the Steelers’ Super Bowl Win.
BASKETBALL
CBA season suddenly ends
The CBA has ended its regular season early because of financial difficulties. It was to end March 15. The league acknowledged it could be gone for good. The league began in 1946 and briefly ceased operations in 2001.
