The Clippers are coming off 2 straight 20 plus point wins on the road after a dissapointing showing in Orlando. Baron, Randolph, and Camby are back in the lineup and they are still awaiting the return of Chris Kaman. The Clippers dominated a great Hawks team 121-97 Saturday night and the night before held the nba highest scoring rookie to 10 points in a 126-105 win at Memphis.
The Clippers have a lot of decisions to make in the coming weeks. They have a great young nucleus in 2nd year player Al Thornton and rookie Eric Gordon, along with 4 proven veterans in Zach Randolph, Marcus Camby, Baron Davis and Chris Kaman. They also picked up 2 late steals in the draft in Deandre Jordan and Mike Taylor and who will be great role players in the future. The trade rumors are heating up.
Camby is most definetly on the move before the deadline. Where and what they will get are the only questions. The Cavaliers who already are strong upfront were rumored to be offering Wally Szczerbiak and a 2nd round pick.
The Clippers have several directions they could go in at this point. Moving Baron Davis, Randolph, and/or Camby is an option if they are looking to the future.
A lot of here-and-now nba title hopefuls could use a veteran point guard, power forward, and center. These teams include the Mavericks, Rockets, Pistons, Cavaliers, Heat, and Magic.
A youth movement would be a great investment for the future. Trading older players for future draft picks and young players with potential would be the wisest move at this point, as they will need to compete with the likes of Minnesota, Portland, Memphis, Oklahoma City, and Utah in the next 5 to 10 years.
There are many players that come to mind: Amir Johnson and Aaron Afflalo (both LA natives), Jameer Nelson, JJ Redick, and Courtny Lee; Jose Juan Barea; Mario Chalmers, Dorell Wright, Daequan Cook, and Mike Beasley; Boobie Gibson and JJ Hickson; Aaron Brooks and Joey Dorsey.
A trade with the Heat and Pistons would make the most sense and get the most value.
Whatever moves the Clippers make they should not take a here-and-now approach, but should be planning for a title run many years from now.
